Calgary Photographers - How To Choose A

Calgary Photographer That's Right For You

Calgary Photographers: Choosing A Photographer For Your Wedding Day

When it comes to events like birthdays and weddings you want to be sure that the occasion is catalogued by an expert, a professional, someone who takes pride in their work and will see the significance of the event as if it was their own. But where can you find such a person? Looking in local directories or the yellow pages will turn up a host of photographers, but how can you trust your big day to just anyone?

The first way to solve this dilemma is by soliciting recommendations from family members, friends on Facebook, or anyone you know and respect who has recently been married in your town. Being able to have a long, in-depth conversation with someone about a photographer is the best way to pre-screen candidates. This way you can ask all kinds of questions (questions you might not dare to ask the photographer him/herself) and all in a comfortable setting.

If you can’t find someone to make a recommendation and you have to simply start calling photographers from the online directories, here’s something to keep in mind.

While photography seems like a skill, a simple skill that can be learned that some have and others don’t, there is another component to professional photography that many overlook to their own detriment. A good photographer will also care about their subjects, about the people and events that they’re photographing. A photographer that has only a cold professional interest in the pictures they’re taking could easily miss all of the moments that are unfolding around him/her. But a photographer who enjoys his or herself at weddings, and has a genuine passion for capturing these precious moments, is someone who you want on your team.

So as you begin looking for a photographer and calling around, this is a character trait you should look for and prize highly when you find it. A genuine interest or care in the subjects of the photography.

One way to answer some of these questions is with an engagement shoot. Trying out your photographer at an engagement shoot is a great way to gauge both their skills with a camera and their personable character. If you have a great shoot and are happy with the results, you may have found your photographer. If the shoot doesn’t go so well, you can try another photographer the same way.

When it comes to your wedding you want everything to be perfect, but you also want all that perfection to be available in photo albums for a lifetime to come, so take your time when looking for Calgary photographers and be comfortable with the choice you’ve made.
